"Disney Infinity launched one year ago, and in that time the number of Wii U players has significantly expanded. The game now being available for free does not however mean that you'll be able to play it without owning the physical base and at least one Infinity figure, so you'll have to grab a starter kit at the minimum in order to be able to enjoy it.įurthermore, the upcoming Disney Infinity 2.0 figures will be backwards compatible with the first game's base and figures, in order to make sure that fans of the franchise who built a big collection of miniatures are not left dead in the water and will be able to enjoy the game with their preferred motley crew.
The Wii has been replaced by its beefier successor, the Wii U, and Disney has decided to allow users free access to the Wii U version of Disney Infinity on the eShop, also making sure that the base and game figures are compatible with either system. The Marvel Universe-based sequel to Disney Infinity, dubbed 2.0, is on its way, scheduled to drop on every console except the old Nintendo Wii, and Disney is now letting users download the original game free of charge for the Wii U.
